Made for
the North Sea.
A surf forecasting app built to understand and navigate the highly local conditions of the North Sea.
The problem
Most surf apps don’t reflect the micro conditions that decide whether the North Sea is actually surfable.
The insight
Surf sessions on the North Sea depend on narrow swell windows, shifting winds, and tidal changes. Existing apps provide plenty of data, but little context for this specific coastline. What was missing was something simple and local. A way to understand when conditions truly line up, without having to cross check multiple sources.
The mission
Create the tool that was missing for the community of North Sea surfers.
The approach
North Forecasting isn’t about reinventing forecasting. It’s about making existing data more usable. Built in collaboration with the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, who provide accurate environmental forecasting data, the app translates that information into something practical and approachable. The value sits in clarity, not complexity.
The solution
A mobile app that turns professional forecasting data into clear surf conditions, helping North Sea surfers make better decisions about when to paddle out. The focus is on simplicity, on what matters, and on respecting local context.
